The story behind how our business was founded

Warmest welcome friends and community members. I’m thrilled to have opened the doors of Willow Grove here in Sausalito! For many years, I’ve believed a women’s clothing consignment store focusing on the casual California high style would be a valuable addition to Sausalito – as I’ve always loved shopping in resale shops and discovering their many hidden jewels.

I’ve been a Sausalito resident for 15 years, and I’ve had the pleasure of raising two children here in Marin. Growing up, I learned to always put myself together before leaving the house. It makes me feel good and I enjoy helping other women with their style.

The women of Marin are strong, smart, spirited and have a unique and individual fashion sense, and I believe the modern woman is one that doesn’t always have to buy new or on-trend, to be stylish. Our community is home to some amazing and accomplished women, and I look forward to meeting all of you in a fresh new place to exchange our beautiful treasures.

Ethical & sustainable clothing vs fast fashion:

Ethical clothing lasts for several seasons and years. Fast fashion is more likely to end up in landfill after one season.

How does fast fashion affect the environment?

Overall, the fashion industry has a huge negative impact on the environment. Fabrics and clothes production is responsible for a significant part of global carbon emissions (10%). The process also pollutes the waterways and drains water sources. What’s more, more than 80% of textiles end up in a landfill, contributing to the pollution problem.

The biggest industry problem is fast fashion, which is extremely affordable and attainable but has a crucial environmental impact. Fast fashion comes and goes and very often exploits labor in an effort to flood the market with cheap and low-quality clothing. This has a devastating effect on nature and wildlife and is often considered very unethical.

The goal of clothing consignment stores is to lower the carbon footprint, encourage clothes recycling and contribute to a circular economy.
